Pineview Update - January 11, 2019          Happy New Year!


School Concert - “Make the World a Better Place -  Afternoon Performance:  Thursday January 24th at 1:30 pm.  Evening Performance: Thursday January 25th at 6:30 pm.  Flyers will be sent home on Monday with details.


SAVE THE DATE - Movie Night on Friday February 8th, 2019.  Families are welcome to order pizza in advance and School Council will provide a fruit snack bar.  Details will be sent out 2 weeks prior to the date.

Kindergarten Registration - Kindergarten registration for the 2019/20 school year is underway at the Halton District School Board! Registration forms are available at schools and on the HDSB website (www.hdsb.ca). Contact your home school to register your child by Feb. 1, 2019. Learning Outside - The Pineview Staff is currently involved in a book study club for the resource Dirty Teaching by Juliet Robertson.  As our learning evolves, we will be increasing the amount of time we spend outdoors for teaching and learning.   Please ensure that your students come to school every day with clothes that are appropriate to the weather.  (Boots, snow pants, jackets, scarves and mitts/gloves.)

PRESENTING THE EVIDENCE FOR OUTDOOR LEARNING AND PLAY

Muddy Hands presents the evidence for outdoor learning and play. It draws on data from the Outdoor Classroom Day 2017 survey, as well as findings from a wide range of literature that highlights the benefits, barriers and solutions to getting children outdoors.

KEY STATISTICS

  • 97% of teachers say that outdoor play is critical for children to reach their full potential.

  • 88% of teachers say that children are happier after playing outdoors.

  • 88% of teachers say that children are more engaged in learning when taking lessons outdoors.

  • 86% of teachers say that playing outdoors gives children a better understanding of the environment.

  • 44% of teachers have increased outdoor learning since getting involved in Outdoor Classroom Day.

KEY FINDINGS

  • Getting outdoors connects us to the places we live and the environments we will want to protect.

  • Getting outdoors results in better learning outcomes, across the board.

  • The benefits of outdoor learning and play last beyond early education.

  • Outdoor learning and play create healthier, more active children.

  • Time spent outdoors boosts mental health.
